Walter Richardson was born in South Dakota, USA, on 7 November 1885. His parents were Charles and Mary Richardson. He later moved to Ogle County, Illinois, and married Ida Speeckeen around 1913. The couple never had any children.
Walter enlisted in World War 1 when United States entered the war in 1917-1918. Afterwards, Walter worked as the vice president of the Holcomb Bank in Chicago until 1948. Ida passed away in 1980. On the occasion of his 112th birthday, it was reported that he was in good physical and mental health. He became the world's oldest man after the death of 113 year old Johnson Parks.
Richardson passed away in Illinois, USA, on 25 December 1998 at the age of 113 years, 48 days. He was the world’s oldest living man at the time of his death.
