Tava Colo (22 December 1902? – 1 May 2021) was a French longevity claimant whose claimed age is currently unvalidated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG). If her claimed age were validated, she would have been the oldest living person in the world since the death of Chiyo Miyako on 22 July 2018, until her own death on 1 May 2021. Colo lived on the island of Mayotte, an overseas department of France.

Biography

According to her identity card, Tava Colo was born in Mamoudzou, Mayotte, France on 22 December 1902. She had two daughters with her first husband, who both died in October 2017. She also had nine grandchildren (the oldest of whom was born in 1949 and the youngest in 1971), 40 great-grandchildren, and 53 great-great-grandchildren. Her granddaughters, who affectionately nicknamed her “Coco” (“grandmother” in the local language), she said that, had several husbands but that she divorced them if they disagreed with her children.

Colo lived with one of her granddaughters in Passamainty, her native village, located in the commune of Mamoudzou, Mayotte. She was bedridden from 2010 onwards. In September 2017, she was visited by an adviser to Agnes Buzyn, France's Minister of Solidarity and Health. When asked to reveal her secret of longevity, she replied “that it must be respectful of all, small and great, and always take care of yourself, be very clean”. Colo died on 1 May 2021 at the claimed age of 118 years, 130 days.
