Modesto Lopez Bautista (17 January 1909? – 22 February 2023) was a Mexican-American supercentenarian claimant whose age is currently unvalidated by the Guinness World Records (GWR). If his claimed age were validated, he would have been the world's oldest living man at the time of his death.
Biography[]
Modesto Lopez Bautista claimed to have been born in Mexico on 17 January 1909, although the 1930 Mexican census indicates a birthyear of around 1922. He moved from Mexico to Bakersfield in 2001 when his daughter brought him to live with her. Reportedly, his birth certificate says he was born in 1909 in San Juan Mixtepec – a small town in Oaxaca, Mexico. He didn't go to school because he had to work taking care of farm animals and other duties to help out his family. Lopez never learned to read or write. The only language he spoke was an indigenous dialect of Mixteco. He said his faith in Jesus Christ was what had allowed him to live a healthy and happy life. He died on 22 February 2023 at the claimed age of 114 years, 36 days.
