Lillie Mae Nunn (adopted as Young; 25 September 1909 – 25 December 2020) was an American supercentenarian whose age is currently unvalidated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).

Biography[]

Nunn was born in Surry County, North Carolina, USA on 25 September 1909. She was adopted at a young age by the Young family in Pilot Mountain, North Carolina. She had at least one sister. Her adopted father was a doctor, and they were one of the few families that had indoor plumbing.

For a long time, she lived with her future husband, Troy Monroe Nunn Sr. (1908–2004). She joined a sizable family that included her husband’s five sisters and a brother as well as his four sons: Troy Jr., Sammy, Philip Delano and Foster Billy (1930–2002). Nunn had one child of her own, Sherman Young, who served in the military but died of cancer. She had worked in one of the large knitting mills in Mount Airy until she married Troy Sr. and became a homemaker.

Troy Sr. and Lillie didn’t marry until 1970, but after that they lived together for 34 years until her husband's death in February 2004. At the age of 99, Nunn told the family that she intended to live to be 113.

In 2000, Nunn and her husband moved to Surry County, North Carolina, to live with her stepson, Troy Jr.. Nunn stayed with him for 14 years until the age of 107, when she began to have trouble with walking. She moved into a nursing home in March 2014. She celebrated her 110th birthday in September 2019. On her birthday, Troy Jr. said that they don't know much about her childhood because she didn’t talk about it.

Nunn died in Mount Airy, North Carolina, USA on 25 December 2020 at the age of 111 years, 91 days.
