Sue Lee Sanders (née Keown; 9 January 1902 – 15 January 2013) was an American supercentenarian whose age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).[1] She was one of the oldest known people in South Carolina when she died.

Biography

Sue Lee Sanders was born as Sue Lee Keown in Athens, Georgia, United States, on 9 January 1902. She was the daughter of William Walter and Sue (née Mattison) Keown. She graduated from Georgia State Teachers College in 1921. She married Harvey G. Sanders at the some point before 1940.[2] The couple had at least two children: Anne and Harvey Jr. She was a teacher in places in Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina. Her father died in 1947 and her mother in 1964 at the age of 96. Sue's husband, Harvey, died on 23 May 1980 at the age of 83. They had been married for at least 40 years. Sanders saw Halley's Comet twice, in 1910 and 1986.

Sanders' age was verified by Mark Muir, et al., and (posthumously) validated by the GRG on 19 February 2016.

Sue Lee Sanders died in Spartanburg, South Carolina, USA, on 15 January 2013, at the age of 111 years, 6 days.[3]
