Sarah McKay (née Leinweber; 25 July 1913 – 18 December 2020) was an American centenarian who was one of the oldest victims of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Biography[]

McKay was born on 25 July 1913 in Endicott, Washington, USA. She was the eighth of 16 children born to Volga German immigrants Joseph and Elizabeth Leinweber. She married Bruce McKay on 13 November 1934; the couple were married for 62 years and had two children, Donald and Barbara. They worked as farmers in Graves Township, just south of Cheney, Washington, until retiring and moving to Spokane, Washington in 1972.

McKay lived in her own home until the age of 102, when she moved into an assisted living facility in Spokane, Washington. She died on 18 December 2020 at the age of 107 years, 146 days, amidst an outbreak of COVID-19, making her one of the oldest victims of the coronavirus pandemic. At the time of her death, she had six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
