Rose Grossi (née Souza; born 24 August 1914) is an Azores-born American centenarian who is one of the oldest known survivors of COVID-19, having recovered from the disease at the age of 105. She also recovered from the Spanish Flu more than a century beforehand, making her one of a small number of people to have survived contracting both diseases.

Biography

Rose Grossi was born in Azores, Portugal on 24 August 1914. As a child, she contracted and survived the Spanish Flu of 1918.

When she was six years old, she moved to the United States with her mother and sister. She married Emilio James "Jim" Grossi, a Italian immigrant in 1933. The couple had three children: Marie Smith, James Grossi and Anne Grossi. Jim joined the Army in 1941 as World War II was beginning. She got widowed in 2006. Her daughter Marie died around 2017.

COVID-19 Survival

In 2020, at the age of 105, she contracted COVID-19 during the coronavirus pandemic. However, she had successfully recovered by the time of her 106th birthday on 24 August, making her one of the oldest known survivors of the disease.

Rose Grossi currently lives at The Ellis Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Norwood, Massachusetts, USA, at the age of 109 years, 238 days.
