Biography

Reva Tuberdyck was born in Michigan, on 19 November 1909. After graduation she attended Michigan State Normal College in Ypsilanti, which is now known as Eastern Michigan University. She worked at Gilbert’s Drug Store in her youth, working on Saturday and Sunday nights until she graduated from Oscoda High School. She attended the college for two years in hopes of studying to be a teacher, but due to her families income struggles during the Great Depression she was unable to continue with school. After returning to Oscoda, she started working at Gilbert’s Drug Store again and it was there that she met her husband, Charles Tuberdyck, who was eight years older than Reva. After a bit of time, the pair moved to Detroit, got married and had a family giving birth to a daughter named Kay and a son name Bruce. Their marriage would last for 64 years. Charles worked at the Detroit Edison Company, according to Reva, and during the war she worked at the Detroit Diesel Factory making war materials for about six months. Tuberdyck was able to spend 30 years in California with her grandchildren. After living there for three decades, Charles decided to retire and the pair decided move to Oscoda. Following the passing of Charles Tuberdyck, the family members started to drive back and forth to see Reva, but eventually moved to Oscoda to live with her. But although Tuberdyck was getting on in her elder years, it didn’t stop her from doing what she wanted to do. On her 90th birthday, she walked across the Mackinac Bridge. She topped herself when she was 100 and she traveled to Arizona and walked the Carlsbad Caverns National Park and renewed her driver’s license. She gave up driving by her own chioce, after hear hearing worsened. She was even emailing and sewing at 100 years old. One thing she does keep up with still today is Detroit Edison Company stock in the newspaper that her husband purchased when he worked there. She also expressed great gratitude to God for allowing her the ability to use her hands since she said her favorite activity is knitting which she started doing in her late 90s.

Reva Tuberdyck currently lives in Oscoda, Michigan, USA.
