Rachel Jones (née Thrasher; 11 August 1903 – 7 December 2014) was an American supercentenarian whose age is currently unvalidated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG). At time of her death, she was the oldest living person in the US state of Alabama.
Biography
Rachel Jones was born in Alabama, USA on 11 August 1903, the youngest of six children of Joseph and Nellie Thrasher.
She attended elementary school in Waugh until she reached the eighth grade, because her mother was afraid to allow young Rachel to walk the long distance to school alone.
She married Isaac Jones in Montgomery, Alabama on 15 January 1924. The couple had twins who died soon after birth.
In her 111th birthday, Jones received letters from President Barack Obama and Montgomery Mayor Todd Strange.
Her brother Rayfield Thrasher (4 September 1893 – 7 Febuary 1999) lived to be 105 years, 156 days.
Rachel Jones died in Montgomery, Alabama, USA on 7 December 2014 at the age of 111 years, 118 days.
