Melanie Leblais (née Jans; 4 September 1903 – 3 April 2016) was a validated French supercentenarian.
Biography[]
Melanie Leblais was born in a French town called Mouais, located in the department Loire-Atlantique. Her parents were Peter and Augustinus (née Blanchais) Jans. As a teenager, she worked as a housekeeper and seamstress in the neighbourhood. Her brother Marcel died of tuberculosis in the late 1910s when he was just 21 years old.
On 5 July 1921, she married a guard and railway worker named Theophilus Leblais, whom she had met earlier that year. The couple had one child in total; a son named after his father. Melanie became a widow in 1964. Around 20 years later, she moved to a nursing home. As of 2015, her son Theophilus is 93 years old.
Melanie lived in Le Mans until she died on 3 April 2016 at the age of 112 years, 212 days.
