Mbuya Remitiya Chifamba (14 September 1910 – 21 November 2020) was a Zimbabwean supercentenarian whose age is currently unvalidated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).

Biography[]

Mbuya Chifamba was born in Zimbabwe (then British colony) on 14 September 1910. She worked on a tobacco farm in Gweru in the 1950s. She married Raymond, but later separated. The couple had four children: three sons and one daughter. Raymond died in 1996. Her first son Edward died at the beginning of 2020 at the age of 87.

As of her 110th birthday, she had one living son Samuel (aged 78 in 2020), 16 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

There was also a history of longevity in her family: her mother and grandmother allegedly lived past the age of 110, her older sister died in 2012 at the age of 106, and her other surviving sister was still alive at the age of 92 on her 110th birthday in 2020. She lived in Woodlands neighborhood, Bulawayo.

Mbuya Chifamba died in Bulawayo, Bulawayo Province, Zimbabwe on 21 November 2020, at the age of 110 years, 68 days. She is the oldest known person to die in Zimbabwe.
