Matilda Serec (neé Gider; 22 October 1909 – 7 March 2019) was a Slovenian centenarian who was the oldest living person in Slovenia since the death of Niko Dragos on 31 March 2018.

Biography

Matilda Gider was born on 22 October 1909 in Krašči, Austria-Hungary (Hungarian part of the Empire; now Slovenia). She was the oldest of 11 children. Her mother lived to be 93 years. As a young woman from a poor peasant family, she often went on a seasonal farm work in Austria and Germany.

In 1932, she married Jozef Serec, a farmer and shipper on Mur river from Satahovci near Murska Sobota. The couple had six children in total, of which one died as an infant. She worked her entire life on a family farm. Her long-time hobby was making crepe-paper flowers.

Serec died on 7 March 2019 at the age of 109 years, 136 days.
