Mary Magaline Brown (née Hamilton; 4 July 1909 – 11 December 2019) was an American supercentenarian whose age is currently unvalidated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).

Biography[]

Mary Magaline Brown was born in Forest City, North Carolina, United States, on 4 July 1909. She was the fifth of seven children born to Weldon and Josie Hamilton. Her parents had five daughters and two sons. She came to Holden, West Virginia at the age of 9 where she lived at Holden, being raised by her aunt. She attended the old Dunbar Elementary School at Holden. When she was in the eighth grade, her family moved to Elk Creek in Triadelphia District.

In 1924, she married Walter Henry “Kind Heart” Brown of Proctor Bottom. Brown and her husband were married for 75 years. They had seven children, four daughters and three sons. The family moved to Braeholm on Buffalo Creek in the 1960s. In 1972, they lost their home in the Buffalo Creek disaster. The family then moved to Proctor Bottom at Amherstdale. Brown worked for many years as head cook at Buffalo High School, before becoming a social worker for PRIDE Community Services in Logan County.

On her 109th birthday, she had 5 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 18 great-great-grandchildren. She celebrated her 110th birthday in July 2019.

Mary Brown died in Amherstdale, West Virginia, USA, on 11 December 2019, at the age of 110 years, 160 days. She was survived by three of her children: Geraldine Green, Ruth Brand and Walter Henry “Cannonball” Brown Jr.
