Maria Mihai (5 January 1913 – 2 February 2022) was a Romanian centenarian who was the oldest known living person in Romania at the time of her death.
Biography[]
Maria Mihai was born in Independenta, Calarasi County, Romania on 5 January 1913. She married Tudor Mihai and had six children, one of her daughters was born in September 1938.
Her husband Tudor fought on the front, was seriously injured and died at the age of 47.
As of January 2013, she had five living children, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She became the oldest known living woman in Romania following the death of 107-year-old Barbara Massai on 24 September 2020. She became the oldest known living person in Romania, following the death of 108-year-old Ioan Lascau on 15 February 2021.
Maria Mihai died in Independenta, Calarasi County, Romania on 2 February 2022 at the age of 109 years, 28 days. Following her death, then 108-year-old Ilie Ciocan became the oldest known living person in Romania.
