Maria de Los Angeles Gallegos Lopez [Spanish: María ... Ángeles ... López] (née Lampayo Leal; 11 July 1907 – 7 January 2018) was a Mexican-American supercentenarian whose age is currently unvalidated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG). At the time of her death, she was one of the oldest known living people in Texas, USA.

Biography

Maria Gallegos Lopez was born as Maria Lampayo Leal in Monterrey, Mexico, on 11 July 1907. Her parents were Wenseslao Lampayo and Benita Leal. She had a sister, Margarita, born on 1 March 1919. In around 1925, when she was 18, she emigrated to San Antonio, Texas.

Lopez married a man with the surname Gallegos some time later. The couple had a daughter, Rosemary (later Galvan). In 1968, Maria was forced from her home to make way for the construction of the Tower of the Americas and Hemis Fair. She and her husband were married for over 50 years.

On 9 March 2000, at the age of 92, Lopez married again, this time to 75-year-old Angelo Lopez, whom she met at the Presa Senior Centre. Her sister Margarita Cruz died on 11 October 2012 aged 93. As of her 110th birthday in 2017, along with her daughter, Maria had four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. According to her family, her secret for her longevity was lots of spicy food, especially chili.

Lopez died in San Antonio, Texas, on 7 January 2018 at the age of 110 years, 180 days.
