Maria Antonia D’Amore Maccallini (20 October 1909 – 24 November 2021) was an Italian supercentenarian whose age is currently unvalidated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).
Biography[]
Maria Antonia D’Amore was born in Cerchio, L’Aquila, Abruzzo, Italy, on 20 October 1909 at 01:30 AM. Her parents were Francesco D'Amore, 30 years old at the time of her birth, and Carmela Colantonio. She was 6 years old at the time of the 1915 Avezzano earthquake. D’Amore was one of few children from her village who survived the earthquake.
In her 30s, D'Amore married Benedetto Maccallini from the nearby village of Aielli. The couple later moved to Rome. In her early 40s, she gave birth to her first child, Sabatino. During World War II, she returned to her birthplace with her son, where she felt safer. At that time, her house in Rome was destroyed by bombs. In 1944, they returned to Rome. In 1946, she gave birth to her first daughter, Emidia. She celebrated her 110th birthday in October 2019.
Maria Antonia D’Amore died in Rome, Lazio, Italy on 24 November 2021 at the age of 112 years, 35 days. At the time of her death, she was the oldest known living person in Lazio and the second-oldest known living person in Italy, after Ida Zoccarato.
