Margarita was born in the town of San Juan de la Costa, Osorno, Los Lagos, Chile. Her parents were Juan Arriagada Ortega and Loreto Cancino Fernández. She was an indigenous Huilliche. She married Juan Mansilla Mansilla in 1927 and with him, she had 8 children, 3 of whom were still alive when Margarita passed away. She also had 26 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great-grandchildren at the time of her death.
Margarita died in the early morning of the day before her 114th birthday in Corte Alto, Purranque, Osorno, Los Lagos, Chile.
