Margaret Taylor (née Barclay) (25 April 1875 – 30 March 1987) was a British-American supercentenarian whose age is currently unvalidated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG). She was one of the oldest known people in Ohio, USA when she died.

Biography[]

Margaret Taylor was born Margaret Barclay on 25 April 1875 in Kilbirnie, Ayrshire, Scotland, UK to parents William and Jean (née Martin) Barclay. She had seven siblings: William (1870–1906), Robert (1877–1917), John (1879–1880), James (1881–1925), Marye (1883–1974), Agnes (1885–1969), Annie (1887–1943).

Margaret married William Wallace Taylor on 17 May 1905, a few weeks after her 30th birthday, and had five children with him: William Jr., Mary, Raymond and two others. On 19 February 1916, her father William Barclay died aged 78/79.

William Taylor Sr. died in July 1941 after 36 years of marriage. Margaret would also outlive two of her children, her mother, and a few grandchildren. Margaret was the longest-lived by far out of her siblings, with only two of her sisters reaching the age of 60.

By the time her 108th birthday came in 1983, Margaret was wheelchair-bound. She had, along with five children, 11 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren. During her later years, she had received cards from US Presidents Ronald Reagan, Jimmy Carter, Gerald Ford and Richard Nixon.

Margaret Taylor died on 30 March 1987 in Warren, Ohio, USA at the age of 111 years, 339 days.
