Magnolia Mitchell (née Jackson; 21 January 1903 – 30 October 2015) was an American supercentenarian whose age is currently pending by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG). She was one of the oldest known people in the US state of Mississippi at the time of her death.
Magnolia Mitchell was born Magnolia Jackson in Yalobusha County, Mississippi, USA, on 21 January 1903. She was the eldest of six children born to Scott and Ada Jackson. She obtained an eighth-grade education in Grenada County, Mississippi. Her father passed away in 1916, when she was only 13. Two years later, she did housework for people in her community for a dollar a day.
In 1925, Magnolia married Vellie Mitchell, but the couple had no children. In 1931, at the age of 28, Mitchell joined Union Grove Missionary Baptist Church, which she was a member of until she moved to Tallahatchie County, Mississippi and joined the Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church, which she was still a member of as a centenarian.
Mitchell was widowed in 1980 after 55 years of marriage to her husband. In 2004, aged 101, her birthday was recognised in a Mississippi House Resolution. She still lived in her own home in Grenada County, Mississippi at the age of 110.
Magnolia Mitchell passed away in Charleston, Grenada County, Mississippi, USA, on 30 October 2015 at the age of 112 years, 282 days.
