Madeleine Chat (born 10 August 1907) is a French supercentenarian whose age is currently unvalidated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG). She is the oldest known living person in the region of Bourgogne-Franche-Comte, France.


Madeleine Chat was born in Auxerre, Bourgogne-Franche-Comte, France on 10 August 1907.

She studied in Dijon and worked as a researcher in Nancy and Paris, She returned to Auxerre at the time of her retirement in 1972.

Chat never married and has no children. She joked about that, saying "God did not give me children, but the devil gave me nephews."

She bought a computer at age 104 and, according to her niece, loves to send emails and photos even as a supercentenarian.

Members of her family had also experienced longevity: her mother lived to be 93, her brother Jean Pierre Chat lived to be 93, her aunt Marie Louise Chat lived to be 104 and her great-grandmother Marie Anne Job lived to 95.[1]

On 31 August 2017, three weeks after her 110th birthday, she became the oldest known living person in Bourgogne-Franche-Comte, following the death of fellow 110-year-old Yvonne Bouton.

Chat still lives at home in Auxerre, Bourgogne-Franche-Comte, France, at the age of 112 years, 199 days. She is among the top 20 oldest people in France.
