Luigi Tomasi ​(17 October 1908 – 7 December 2018) was an Italian supercentenarian whose age is currently unvalidated by the Gerontology Research Group. He was the oldest living man in Italy, since the death of Lorenzo Berzero on 2 August 2018, until his own death on 7 December 2018.

Biography[]

Luigi Tomasi was born in Corona nea Alh am Etsch, Austria-Hungary (now Ala, Trentino-Alto Adige, Italy) in a large family of seven brothers, working as sharecroppers in the Debiasi company, on 17 October 1908. In 1930, he married Maria Bazzanella, with whom he had eight children.

In the World War II, he was sent to Brunico but returned home to continue his work in the countryside. He is then sent to fight on the French border but was later discharged as a father of four children. At the end of the war he bought three hectares of countryside and continued to do farming. He retired at 80. At 108, he still lived at home, but spent the day in the senior service center.

Tomasi had a passion for mountaineering since he was young. On the day of his 109th birthday, on 17 October 2017, he celebrated with all his family and friends and received, from the Alpini of Ala, a plaque souvenir with on written "To the longest-lived alpine of all Italy".

Tomasi died in a Day Center of Ala, Trentino-Alto Adige, Italy on 7 December 2018 at the age of 110 years, 51 days. He is the oldest man ever from Trentino-Alto Adige
