Juan de Dios Palacio Penagos (8 December 1903 – 27 May 2016) was a Colombian supercentenarian claimant whose age is currently unvalidated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG). He was believed to have become the oldest man in Colombia following the death of Antonio Blanchar on 31 October 2012.

Biography

Juan de Dios Palacio claimed to have been born in Concepcion, Antioquia, Colombia on 8 December 1903. He married Ana Barbara Londono Munera.

Juan had 21 children, five of whom were still alive at the time of his death; 34 grandchildren, 60 great-grandchildren and 26 great-great-grandchildren. In addition, he retired from the defunct Antioquia Railway, a company he abandoned in 1952.

According to Camilo Gallo, one of his great-grandchildren, he was a devotee dedicated to the Deportivo Independente de Medellín (Colombian football club).

Juan de Dios never had habits that could be considered special and that justified his state of health, as a young man, he smoked and drank alcohol like other people his age, only when he became an adult, began to take care of himself a little more, but he had no special habits. According to a family member, Juan remained in perfect physical and mental health.

Until he was 108, he still shaved and managed money at home. Then he started to move less and his vision, hearing and general health decreased slightly.

Juan de Dios Palacio died in Medellin, Antioquia, Colombia on 27 May 2016 at the claimed age of 112 years, 171 days.
