Jozef Zurek [Polish: Józef Żurek] (31 August 1909 – 20 March 2018) was a Polish centenarian who was the oldest living man in Poland since the death of 107-year-old Jozef Plawski on 9 April 2017 and the third-oldest living Polish-born man, behind Gustav Gerneth and Joe Bach, who lived in Germany and the USA respectively.
Jozef Zurek was born in Gacki, Germany (now Gacki, Kuyavia-Pomerania Voivodeship, Poland, on 31 August 1909. He joined the army in 1930. Upon the outbreak of World War II, Mr. Zurek fought in the 1939 September campaign and the Battle of Bzura, whereupon he got into German captivity. He returned home in 1946.
In 2009, on his 100th birthday, he was promoted to Lieutenant. He became the oldest man in Poland aged 107, following the death of Jozef Plawski on 9 April 2017. On 31 August 2017, he celebrated his 108th birthday. Zurek died on 20 March 2018, aged 108 years, 200 days.
