Centenarian |
Josephus Gerardus Antonius "Jos" Wijnant (27 March 1902 – 26 June 2010) was a Belgian-born Dutch centenarian who was the oldest known living man in the Netherlands at the time of his death.
Biography
Wijnant was born in Antwerp, Belgium, on 27 March 1902. During World War I, his parents sent him to live with family in 's-Hertogenbosch, where he continued to live. He served in several municipal positions beginning in 1930, eventually retiring in 1967 as the head of the city's finance department.
Wijnant's daily diet consisted of a glass of tomato juice for breakfast, a hard-boiled egg for lunch, and a hot meal for dinner. He became the oldest living man in the Netherlands on 28 July 2008, after the death of Adrianus van der Vaart. He retained the title for nearly 2 years, finally dying in 's-Hertogenbosch on 26 June 2010 at the age of 108. He allegedly broke his hip in a fall, and his health continued to decline. His successor was Cornelis Geurtz.
