John Patrick "Jack" Roache (30 March 1905 – 4 April 2011) was a New Zealand centenarian, who was the oldest living man in New Zealand from 18 February 2011 to his death.

Biography

Roache was born in Ireland on 30 March 1905 to Paul and Mary (Somers) Roache. His father lived to the age of 94; his mother 97. He had eight siblings: Lizzie, Peter, Bridget, Philip, Edward, Kathleen, Ellen and Mary. Roache and his sister Ellen moved to Australia in 1928 and worked as a farmer and a gold panner.

Roache moved to New Zealand in 1938. On his first night there, he met Dorothy Brown; they later married. Jack and Dorothy Roache had six children. Dorothy died in 1990.

Roache was still mowing his lawn on a rideable mower at the age of 101. For the last 45 days of his life, following the death of 107-year old Dudley Sainsbury, Roache was the oldest living man in New Zealand. Stephen Todd succeeded him.
