Johanna "Jenny" Emma Sell (née Stadtlander; 28 November 1901 – 1 May 2012) was a American supercentenarian who is currently pending by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG)


Johanna Sell was born in Hardin County, Iowa, USA on 28 November 1901. Her parents were Carl Stadtlander, a German immigrant and Gertie (née Schultz) Stadtlander. She had eight siblings. The family moved by Mountain Lake, Minnesota in Cottonwood County in 1907 and farmed in Midway and Selma Townships. She received her education in District 27 county school.

She married William "Bill" Sell in Mountain Lake, Minnesota on 9 June 1937. The couple had four children: DuWaine Sell (deceased), Arlo Sell, Twila Mattison (1941–2019) and Marlene Engler. After marriage, Bill and Johanna farmed in Amo Township until he died on 6 May 1958. Johanna then moved to Windom in 1961.

She did odd cleaning, baby and adult sitting jobs around town and formed many lasting friendships. She lived in her own home until she turned 98. She then went into assisted care at Heritage House in Windom. In 2005, at the age of 104, Johanna moved into the Good Samaritan Society-Sogge Memorial in Windom.

She was a member of the Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Windom. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, gardening, baking, cooking, taking care of her lawn, and doing general farm work, but most of all she loved spending time with her family.

Johanna Sell died at Windom Area Hospital in Windom, Minnesota, USA on 1 May 2012 at the age of 110 years, 155 days. She is survived by four children DuWaine Sell, Arlo Sell, Twila Mattison and Marlene Engler; 15 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, 13 great- great grandchildren, one sister-in-law Edna Stadtlander; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
