Joseph Pleasant "Joe" Thomas (1 May 1875—14 December 1986) was a validated American supercentenarian.
Biography
Joseph Thomas was born in Franklin County, Louisiana, to parents Frank and Silvia Thomas. Frank was a Caucasian farmer and Silvia was African-American; a relatively rare occurence in United States during the 1870s.
In 1901, when Joe was around 25-26, he married Sarah Taliaferro. She had been married previously and already had 2 children. The couple had an additional 6 children in total. During World War 1, he enlisted in the U.S. army.
Towards the end of his life, he battled a lengthy illness, from which he passed away on 14 December 1986. He lived to be 111 years, 227 days, and was believed to be the world's oldest living man at the time of his death[1].
