Stoneman was born on 29 September 1854 in Andover, Hampshire, United Kingdom, and later moved to Newton Abbot, Devon. She became the oldest known person in the country following the death of Mary Worthington) on 12 January 1961, and held this distinction until her own death on 19 April 1962, aged 107 years, 202 days.
