Hermione Cock (1 March 1904 – 24 October 2015) was a verified British supercentenarian, who, at the time of her death, was the second oldest living person in the United Kingdom, behind 112-years-old Gladys Hooper.
Biography
Hermione Cock was born as Hermione Hawkins on 1 March 1904. Hermione was born in Wiltshire but moved to Shropshire in the 1920s. She met her husband James Cock at a ‘heavily chaperoned’ party. They married at St Mary’s Church in 1928 and they haved three children. Hermione became a housewife, while her husband worked as a tanner in Barker Street. At the outbreak of World War Two, he was drafted into the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers and served in Africa, and after the war, James and Hermione moved to Holyhead Road in Wellington. Hermione and James were together for more than 50 years. Her husband passed away in 1984 at 79. Hermione received a card from the Queen on her 110th birthday.
Hermione Cock passed away on 24 October 2015 aged 111 years, 237 days at The Ferns Residential Home in Shrewsbury.
