Hazel Houghton Luther nee Penniman (11 December 1889 – 31 January 2003) was a validated American supercentenarian

Biography

Hazel Luther was born as Hazel Houghton Penniman in Worcester, Worcester County, Massachusetts, United States, on 11 December 1889. Her parents were George Petrie Penniman and Nellie Finley Penniman (nee Barrows). She was a descendent of three passengers on the Mayflower: Isaac Allerton, James Chilton and Richard Warren. She married Robert Henry Luther on 16 November 1918 in Washington, DC. They eventually moved to Detroit, where Robert worked for Provident Mutual Life Insurance company. They didn't had any children. They moved to Daytona Beach in the mid-1950s when they retired. Hazel Luther lived alone after her husband’s death in 1957 until she was 104.

Hazel Luther was known for her singing voice in her youth. She attended Juilliard School of Music, then known as the Institute of Musical Art, and earned two diplomas in singing. She taught voice at exclusive girls school, National Park Seminary, located in Forest Glen, MD from 1917 to 1920. Hazel Luther died in Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach, Volusia County, Florida, United States, on 31 January 2003 at the age of 113 years, 51 days.
