Hatsu Sato (Japanese: 佐藤ハツ; 1 March 1906 – 2 November 2016) was a Japanese supercentenarian whose age is currently unvalidated by Gerontology Research Group (GRG).

Biography

Sato was born in the village of Akebonomura (later Hachimantai, today part of Kazuno), Akita Prefecture, Japan, on 1 March 1906. She married Shojiro and the couple had one son and four daughters. Her son was still alive at the time of her death, being 86-years-old at the time. When she was 35-years-old, her husband died due to illness and she had to raise her children by herself while earning money from farming rice and work with straw. She had 10 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren. Even at the age of 100, she could still weed and do housework.

Following the death of Yoshi Obuchi on 16 December 2015, Sato became the oldest living person in Akita Prefecture.

Sato died of kidney failure at her home in Hanawa, Kazuno, Akita Prefecture, Japan, at 8 AM of 2 November 2016, at the age of 110 years, 246 days. Her funeral was held on 7 November.
