Gertrude Ellison on her 110th birthday

Ellison was born in Minnesota, USA, on 16 May 1908. She grew up in South Dakota, where she remembers sewing buttons on World War I hospital gowns by hand when she was ten years old. She moved to Washington in the late 1930s, following her sister who had already migrated to the city of Puyallup.
Ellison worked as a teacher for much of her life. Her husband Roy died in 1965. They had three sons - Wilt, Russ, and Burt.
Ellison currently lives in a retirement home in Sumner, Washington, where she became a supercentenarian in May 2018.
