His father was the chamber lackey for the King Christian X of Denmark and he has a brother Henning and sister Esther, both of whom he has outlived. He currently lives in a senior residence in Skovlunde. He faces hearing problems and requires an interpreter. He has a sharp memory, being able to have memory of his childhood upto about 100 years ago. According to his interpreter who is also his home help, he is very talkative and happy. On his 109th birthday, his daughter visited him and some of his grandchildren. He also has memories of the days of World War I. As of his 109th birthday, he takes a vitamin pill a day.
