Mawer on his 109th birthday.
|Birth:||15 August 1912|
|Age:||109 years, 38 days|
Mawer was born in Australia on 16 August 1912. During the 1918/19 Spanish Flu Pandemic, Mawer's brother died of the disease. Furthermore, his mother died while he was still a child, leaving him to become a ward of the state.
When old enough to begin working, Mawer started work as a farm laborer and later in a factory. In 1939, Mawer married an Elisabeth, an Irish immigrant, in a factory where they both worked. Together, they raised six children.
Elisabeth later moved into a care home and died in 2012 at the age of 92.
Mawer still lives independently in his home in Gymea, New South Wales, Australia, and receives a visit from a local care home four times a week. At the time of his 108th birthday, he had 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Mawer actively attends Horizon Church in Sutherland, the same church which Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison attends.
