Florence Maud Pittaway (15 October 1902 – 21 December 2014)[1] was a validated British supercentenarian,[2] who, at the time of her death, was the second oldest living person in the United Kingdom, behind 114 year old Ethel Lang. She also holds the record of being the oldest person ever from the West Midlands county.

Florence Maud Pittaway was born and raised in Bordesley Green, Birmingham. She could recall the sinking of the Titanic in 1912.[3]

Florence married John, who passed away in 1963, aged 63. The couple had two children, Ivor and Jean.[4] Florence worked as a bartender for most of her life, only retiring at the age of 85.[3] Her sister Linda was also a centenarian, passing away in 2008, at the age of 102.[4]

Pittaway was taken seriously ill at the age of 110, suffering from kidney failure and septicemia. Remarkably, she was able to make a full recovery.[3] She put her longevity down to eating fresh, home-cooked food, and helping others.[5]

Florence Pittaway passed away on 21 December 2014, in Erdington, Birmingham, at the age of 112 years, 67 days.[5] At the time of her death, she was the second oldest living British person, as well as the last living British person born in 1902.
