Walburga "Wally" Mary McBride Baker (née Stiefel; 9 January 1898 – 8 April 2009) was an American supercentenarian whose age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).

Biography[]

Wally Baker was born as Walburga Mary "Wally" Stiefel in Talleyville, Brandywine Hundred, New Castle, Delaware, USA on 9 January 1898. Her parents, Jacob Stiefel and Margaret Wulff, were Swiss and German emigrants, respectively. One of eight children, longevity runs in the Stiefel family. Her brother John lived to be 99, her sister Seline lived to 95 and sisters Emma and Anna lived to be 102 and 105, respectively. Wally owned and operated a luncheonette at Foulk and Silverside Roads for years and used the luncheonette for folding bandages for the Red Cross during WWII with the help of the neighbor ladies. She had three husbands, including Thomas Elwood McBride (1882 - 1948) and Reese Burford Baker (1896 - 1954). She resided at Parkview Nursing home and Rehabilitation Center in Wilmington, Delaware.

Wally Baker died in Wilmington, Delaware, USA on 8 April 2009 at the age of 111 years, 89 days. At the time of her death she had 6 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and 8 great-great-grandchildren. Her son Eddie lived to 98. She was the oldest person ever from Delaware.
