Centenarian

Ndue Gjon Melyshi [Albanian: Mëlyshi] (13 February 1911 – 31 July 2020) was an Albanian centenarian who, at the time of his death, was the oldest known living man in Albania, and the second-oldest known living person in Albania, behind Zenepe Pirani.

Biography[]

Ndue Melyshi was born in Kthelle, Lezhe County, Ottoman Empire (now Albania) on 13 February 1911. However, in the most recent article mentioning his death, he claimed that his baptism certificate "states" he was born in 1909, albeit the year being 1911 on his passport.

He supported the monarchy during Albania's National Liberation Movement (1942–1945), and was an opponent of the Communist regime that was installed later. He fled the country in 1952, moving first to Yugoslavia, Italy and West Germany, and eventually settling in the United States, where he lived until 1992. He spent his later years in Shkoder.

Melyshi died in Shkoder, Shkoder County, Albania on 31 July 2020 at the age of 109 years, 169 days.
