Maria "Rie" Duijkersloot (2 March 1909 – 21 June 2019) was a Dutch supercentenarian whose age is currently unvalidated by the Gerontology Research Group.

Biography[]

Maria Duijkersloot, also known as Rie Duijkersloot, was born in Limmen, North Holland, Netherlands, on 2 March 1909. Her parents were Jaap Duijkersloot and Catherina Duijkersloot-Nuijens. She was known in her village for teaching other women sewing, as she followed sewing lessons at an art school in Alkmaar. In The Hague, she did exam for lingerie and costume designer. She eventually had her own sewing school and became a needlework teacher in 1964 until her retirement.

Duijkersloot had a sister who was four years younger than her. After their father died at the age of 42 and their mother at age 82, they continued to live in their parent's house before moving to a nursing home. Duijkersloot's younger sister passed away on 4 February 2005 at the age of 91 or 92.

In her senior years, she liked to read newspapers and puzzling. At the age of 107, she was still using her exercise bike for 15 minutes, immediately when she came out of her bed. At the age of 99, she survived mouth cancer after multiple times of irradiation.

Maria Duijkersloot celebrated her 110th birthday on 2 March 2019. She died in Limmen, North Holland, Netherlands on 21 June 2019 at the age 110 years, 111 days.
