Lu Rongyu [Chinese: 路蓉毓] (18 July 1911 – 26 July 2022) was a Chinese supercentenarian whose age is currently unvalidated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).

Biography[]

Early Life[]

Lu Rongyu claims to have been born on 18 July 1911 in Yixing County, Wuxi, Jiangsu, Qing dynasty (China). She studied at Nanjing faculty of medicine, and became a midwife.

Lu married at the age of 25, and had 7 children (5 boys and 2 girls). Her oldest son was aged 84 in 2020, and the youngest child was aged 73.

After the liberation in 1949, Lu moved to Hangzhou, Zhejiang.

Later Life[]

In 2012, Lu went to a dental clinic in Hangzhou to have dentures. In 2014, she celebrated her 103rd birthday (104th by East Asian counting) in Xinbailu Restaurant with her family. At the time, she was reported to have energy, and to like the German team of football. She drinks a glass of red vine each day.

In October 2017, Lu was reported to be the tenth-oldest living person in Hangzhou. In October 2020, aged 109, she was reported to be the oldest living person in Hangzhou. At the time, she lived in Weikang nursing home in Shangcheng District, Hangzhou, with her daughter Hu Xiaoyun [Chinese: 胡肖云] (her second child, aged 82 in 2020). She was still using WeChat (a Chinese social network).

On 7 June 2022, Lu was operated for an hemangioma she had on her right arm at the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine.

Lu Rongyu died at 7:52 p.m. in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China on 26 July 2022, at the age of 111 years, 8 days.
