Ethel Farrell (née Burns; 27 November 1902 – 20 December 2015) was a validated Indian-born Australian supercentenarian who was the oldest known living person in Australia following the death of Vi Robbins on 8 October 2014, until her own death over a year later.
Biography
Dorothy Ethel Farrell was born in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India on 27 November 1902 to parents Henry Edward Burns (1869–1929) and Blanche Eleanor Caroline Wood (1877–1909). She married Laurence Patrick Farrell (1902–1991) in 1934. The couple later emigrated to Australia in 1948.
Dorothy Ethel Farrell was the oldest living person in Australia by nearly 3 years, and is the 3rd oldest Australian of all time. Farrell is the second verified Indian-born supercentenarian. The first was Lucy d'Abreu (1892–2005), who died aged 113 years, 197 days.[1]
Ethel Farrell died in Blackburn South, Victoria, Australia on 20 December 2015 at the age of 113 years, 23 days. After her death, Mary Whitehurst became the oldest living Australian.
