Mattie Fern Fentiman (née Laflin) (30 August 1900 – 18 August 2011) was an American supercentenarian whose age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG). She was the oldest known person in the state of Missouri at the time of her death.
Fern Fentiman was born as Mattie Fern Laflinin Elmwood, in Nebraska, USA, on 30 August 1900. Her parents were Albert and Elizabeth (née Gamble) Laflin. She was one of three children born to her parents. She later married Clifton J. Fentiman and had a son, Dwane, with him. At some point in her life, she moved to Rock Port, Missouri, and was widowed. Her son and siblings also preceded her in death.
Fentiman became the oldest known person in Missouri on 26 July 2011, following the death of 111-year-old Jewell Stehlik (1899-2011). She would hold that title for the last 23 days of her life.
Fern Fentiman passed away in Rock Port, Missouri, USA, on 18 August 2011, at the age of 110 years, 353 days, just 12 days before her 111th birthday. She was survived by her daughter-in-law Helen, grandsons Richard and James, great-grandson Barry, and great-great-granddaughter Madison. She was succeeded as Missouri’s oldest known person by Helen Netherton (1900-2011).
