Faustino Perfecto (Tino) Vargas Perez (27 September 1896 – 20 August 2008) was a Costa Rican supercentenarian whose age is currently unvalidated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).

Biography

Faustino was born on 27 September 1896 in Naranjo, Alajuela, Costa Rica. His parents were Jose Faustino de la Concepcion Vargas (1851 – 1920) and Manuela Margarita Vargas (née Perez Murillo; 1857 – 1945). He had 6 siblings: Rafael Alberto, Jose Alberto Faustino, Ana Maria Elena, Adela Rosa, Francisco Rafael Alfredo and Maria Adela.

In 1926, he married Amanda Corrales. Amanda was 15 years old at that time. They had 11 children, 7 of whom were still alive in December 2004. In 1960, he moved to Tibas, San Jose. Their marriage lasted for 77 years until Amanda's death on 3 May 2003. When asked about the secret of his long life, he said: I don't know... I guess because God willed it so. I don't know how many years I will live, I can die tomorrow or maybe not, that only God knows. In 2004, he lived with his three children, Mariela, Adolfo and Claudia. In 2006, it was revealed that Vargas woke up every morning around 5:30 AM, made his breakfast and read newspapers. In 2007, he had 18 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Faustino was last confirmed alive on 28 September 2007 at the age of 111 years, 1 day. At that time, he lived in Tibas, San Jose, Costa Rica. According to MyHeritage, he died on 20 August 2008 at the age of 111 years, 328 days.
