Evie Wooten (née Wilson; 19 January 1903 – 3 April 2014) was an American supercentenarian whose age is currently pending by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG). She was one of the oldest known people in the US state of Texas at the time of her death.
Evie Wooten was born as Evie Wilson, the third of six children born to Francis Claude Wilson and Dora Euphena (née Kay) Wilson, in Leon County, Texas, USA, on 19 January 1903. In her later life, she claimed 1902 as her birth year, but the 1910 and 1920 censuses support 1903.
Wooten was married twice. In 1919, aged 16, she married her first husband, Finis Larrison, and had four children with him: Finis Jr., Joe, Jeff, and Blandine (married Zachary). The family moved to Walker County, Texas in 1927. A decade later, she became the Postmistress at the Phelps Post Office, and opened the Larrison Grocery Store, which she ran for 27 years.
Evie and Finis Sr. divorced in 1945, and Evie went on to marry Joseph Bryant Wooten in 1958, but he died six years later in 1964, the same year Evie retired from the Phelps Post Office. In 1974, Wooten was involved in a land dispute with the family of her first husband, from which a court case ensued.
On her claimed 112th (but more likely 111th) birthday in 2014, all three of Wooten’s sons were still alive. Her daughter, Blandine Zachary, passed away in 2000 following a battle with cancer, which her three sons had also battled with, but survived.
Evie Wooten died in Huntsville, Texas, USA, on 3 April 2014, at the age of 111 years, 74 days. Her sons all outlived her, with Jeff passing away in 2016, Finis Jr. passing away in 2017, and Joe being the only one still alive as of 2018.
