Erminia Bianchini (23 April 1908 – 23 June 2020) was an Italian supercentenarian whose age is validated by the European Supercentenarian Organisation (ESO) and recognized by LongeviQuest (LQ). She was the oldest known living person in Italy at the time of her death. She was also the last surviving person in Italy born in 1908.
Biography
Erminia Bianchini was born in Bra, Cuneo, Piedmont, Italy on 23 April 1908. She was adopted as a child. She married Luigi, who died at 95, and they had four children. As of 2018, Bianchini had eight grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
In her youth she loved to go dancing waltzes and mazurkas, where she met her future husband, Luigi Fazio. After 3 years of engagement, the couple got married in Cossano Belbo. They had four children: Remigio, Ilario, Anna Maria and Ninfa.
Her husband passed away in 2003. Following his death, she lived for a while independently in her home in San Donato, a small fraction of the comune of Mango. She was known by her relatives and friends as “nonna Miglia” (English: “grandmother Miglia”). At the age of 112, she had 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Bianchini died in Diano d'Alba, Cuneo, Piedmont, Italy, where she lived with her daughter. On 2 August 2018, following the death of 110-year-old Lorenzo Berzero, she became the oldest living person in the region of Piedmont. She became the oldest living person in Italy following the death of Valesca Tanganelli on 4 March 2020. After her death, Maria Oliva became the oldest living person in Italy. Her age was verified by Alessandro Delucchi and Paolo Scarabaggio, and validated by the ESO on 1 November 2020.
