Elsie Mae Davis (née Moody) (23 May 1907 – 18 November 2017) was an American supercentenarian whose age is currently unvalidated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG). At the time of her death, she was one of the oldest known living people in Connecticut, USA.

Elsie Davis was born Elsie Mae Moody in Norfolk, Virginia, USA, on 23 May 1907. Her parents were Charlie and Daisy Moody, who were both from North Carolina. Her mother passed away when Elsie was young. Elsie went to stay with an aunt in Philadelphia, and travelled back and forth from there to Virginia until the age of 17, when she moved to Middletown, Connecticut.

Elsie’s first job once moving to Connecticut was babysitting for the Byerly family. She also worked at Snow White Laundry. She enjoyed sewing and did so freestyle without the use of patterns. Elsie also worked at Middlesex Hospital as a nurse’s aide and was known for the distinction of designing their first nurse’s cap.

In 1934, when Elsie was 27, she married John “Buck” Davis and had five children with him: Virginia, Faith, Lisa, Timothy, and Guy. Elsie and John also raised 25 foster children over a period of more than 20 years. John owned the Goodwill Social Club and later bought the Commodore Macdonough Inn, providing live entertainment and a restaurant-like atmosphere for minorities in the area.

Both Elsie and John were members of the True Vine Holiness Church in Portland. Then Elsie joined the Cross Street AME Zion Church. Elsie then became a member of the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church of Middletown. She is still a member as of her 110th birthday.

In October 2016, at the age of 109, Davis was interviewed by Middlesex County Historical Society Executive Director Debbie Shapiro and Professor Gina Ulysse from Wesleyan University in preserving the history of African-American migration to the North and Middletown.

At the time of her 110th birthday in May 2017, Elsie, along with her five children, had five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Elsie Davis died in Middletown, Connecticut, USA, on 18 November 2017 at the age of 110 years, 179 days.
