Edythe Sarah Kirchmaier (née King; 22 January 1908 – 24 October 2015) was an American centenarian who was the oldest user on the social media site Facebook. On 22 January 2013, she signed up to the site on her 105th birthday.

Biography

She was born in Springfield, Ohio, USA on 22 January 1908. Her parents were Horace P. King and Clara King.

She was the University of Chicago's oldest graduate, and resided in Santa Barbara, California. She was also a graduate of The Ohio State University and Springfield High School in Ohio.

In retirement, she volunteered once a week for the charity Direct Relief. She was the eldest registered driver in California and had a perfect record during her 86 years as a motorist. She was donated a Honda Civic to help her work with her organisation after her caravan was destroyed.

She was married with Joe Kirchmaier for over 70 years. The couple had two children: Raymond King and Mary Barbara. Her husband died in 2008 at age 98, when she was 100 years of age.

She was featured on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The Today Show, and on the Oprah Winfrey Network’s Super Soul Sunday, for her volunteer work at Direct Relief.

Kirchmaier died in Santa Barbara, California, USA on 24 October 2015 at the age of 107 years, 275 days. She was survived by her son Raymond and her daughter-in-law Mary, her daughter Mary and her son-in-law Paul, six grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren.
