Dorothy "Dot" May Thompson (née Worden; 1 May 1914 – 29 April 2020) was an American centenarian who was one of the oldest victims of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Biography

Dorothy Thompson was born in Garden Grove, Iowa, USA on 1 May 1914. Her parents were Arthur Worden and Faye (née McBroom) Gehlhaar.

She started her education at a little country school near Humeston, and then attended school at Garden Grove. She graduated from LeRoy HS.

She married Wayne Thompson in Corydon, Iowa, USA on 26 August 1933. The couple had four children: Billy Thompson (1934–1998), Larry Thompson (1936–2017), Wanda Childers and Jerry Thompson (1943–2002). She got widowed in 2000, after 66 years of marriage.

She worked on the family farm in Seymour 43 years, cooked for the Seymour School district, and was employed at Nealy Mfg. from 1962-1980.

She moved at Trinity Care Center at the age of 104. In April 2020, she diagnosed with covid-19.

Dorothy Thompson died of covid-19 in Des Moines, Iowa, USA on 29 April 2020 at the age of 105 years, 364 days. She was survived by one daughter Wanda Childers; one half-brother Ivan Gehlhaar; one half-sister Pauline Miller; four grandaughters Valerie, Theresa, Jeri Kay, Doris; two great-grandsons Maverick and Hunter Thompson and many other relatives.
