Dorothy Baldwin (8 February 1902 – 1 January 2014) was a verified British supercentenarian.[1] She was the 2nd oldest living person in the UK at the time of her death, behind Ethel Lang. She was also the first supercentenarian to die in 2014.
Biography
Baldwin was born in Carrington, Nottingham. She attended High Pavement School, Stanley Road, where she enjoyed studying history and geography, before starting work a week before the end of the First World War.[2]
She worked as a cashier for London City and Midland Bank, remaining there for 38 years. Having had piano lessons from an early age, Miss Baldwin played for the Nottingham Symphony Orchestra and later became an associate of the London College of Music.[2]
She never married, and had no siblings. Baldwin remained in her own home until the age of 104.She also drove a car until she was in her 80s.[2]
Baldwin passed away on New Years Day 2014, having fought an infection in the weeks leading up to her death.[3]
