Centenarian

Doris Mackintosh (18 January 1902 – 11 February 2011) was a British-born New Zealander centenarian who was the country’s oldest known living person.

Biography

Mackintosh was born in the English town of Reading on 18 January 1902. She married Ian Mackintosh, and had 2 children with him. The family moved to New Zealand in 1953.

For the last 13 years of her life, she lived at the Alpine View Care Centre in Christchurch. She celebrated her 109th birthday with a tea party where she requested bone china and sponge cakes.

After the death of 107-year old Inez Newton on 15 June 2009, Doris became New Zealand's oldest living person. She died on 11 February 2011, the same day that New Zealand's third-oldest living person, Esther Moreland, died. Lena Ray, who was a day younger than Doris, became New Zealand's oldest living person.
