Biography[]

Charlotte Kretschmann was born in Breslau, Silesia, Germany (now Wroclaw, Lower Silesia Voivodeship, Poland) on 3 December 1909. She celebrated her 110th birthday in December 2019.

She was married to her husband Werner and had one daughter. In 1944, her daughter and she were forced to flee Breslau and moved to Stuttgart, where she was reunited with her husband (who had been fighting in France) after the war. At the age of 109, her daughter was still alive, as well as two grandsons, Dominic and Peter.

In March 2021, at the age of 111, she voted in the Baden-Wurttemberg state election.

On 12 January 2023, following the death of 112-year-old Babette Endres, she became the last person in Germany born before 1911.

On 19 June 2023, the Gerontology Research Group announced on the World Supercentenarian Forum that she had been given the pending status. Her age was later validated on 23 August 2023.

On 8 August 2023, she surpassed the final age of Josefine Ollmann, becoming the oldest person ever to have been born and resided in Germany.

On 3 December 2023, she celebrated her 114th birthday, making her the first validated German supercentenarian in history to reach that age.

On 1 February 2024, following the death of 114-year-old Pearl Berg, she entered the top 10 oldest validated living people in the world.

On 22 Febuary 2024, following the death of 116-year old Edie Ceccarelli, she became the ninth oldest living person in the wold.

She presently lives in Kirchheim unter Teck, Baden-Wuerttemberg, Germany. She is currently the oldest known living person in Baden-Wuerttemberg, and the oldest known living person in Germany since the death of Anna Cernohorsky on 18 September 2022. She is also the third-oldest (validated) known living person in Europe behind Maria Branyas Morera and Ethel Caterham.
